Ezekiel’s Army

By Dr. Douglas F. Levesque, Founder of The Levesque Institute

“So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army.”  Ezekiel 37:10

The promises God made regarding a miraculous rebirth of Israel as a nation also have specific and implied promises of an equally amazing army.  An army with muscle.  An army on the move.  An army with a divine mandate.  The modern Israeli Defense Force or IDF is an impressive military force by any standards, winning every conventional battle since its inception.  Ezekiel’s army has risen.

The IDF is a comprehensive organization.  It costs 10% of total national GDP not including American funding.  It is the only military in the world that has obligatory service for both men and women.  It has minimal separation of services, meaning it includes and integrates army, navy and aviation units.  In national emergency it takes precedent over every other branch of government, and Israel is almost always in a state of emergency.

Most of Israel’s past political leaders have had major roles in the IDF.  Dayan, Begin, Rabin, Sharon and Barak were all military men.  The nation’s civilian technical prowess comes from the training of scientists, engineers, software and robotic technicians in the service of military needs.  Though small in numbers, the IDF retains technological superiority of the air, sea, land and space in order to maximize the use of force when necessary.

Because the land mass of Israel is so small and vulnerable it’s military and political doctrine combine to justify the concept of a “pre-emptive strike”.   It’s alliances with America also give it an ‘aura’ of teeth that can bite with immunity.  In case of a catastrophic attack, the well known ‘Samson Doctrine’  would ensure a nuclear or equally devastating response, bringing the house down upon Israel’s enemies.

Army Profile:

40,000 professional officers

125,000 full time soldiers

600,000 part time reservists

4000 “Merkava” (Chariot) Main Battle Tanks

11,000 Armored Vehicles

Navy Profile:

14,000 full time sailors

300 full time commandos

3 “Tekumah” (Revival) submarines

3 Missile Corvettes

50 patrol & attack boats

2 amphibious landers

Air Force Profile:

25,000 full time airmen

35,000 part time reservists

100 F15i “Ra’am” (Thunder) Fighter aircraft

320 F16 Fighter/bomber aircraft

120 attack helicopters

Technology Profile:

Ofek-6 Surveillance/communication Satellite

1500 “Mossad” (the Institution) Intelligence agents

200 Nuclear warheads

Jericho 2 missile (2500 mile range)

First missile stopping Laser weapon

War Fighting Profile:

1948-49           War of Independence

1956                 Sinai War

1967                Six Day War

1973                Yom Kippur War

1978                 First Lebanese Incursion

1981                Iraq nuclear reactor strike

1982-2000        South Lebanon Occupation

1987-93           Palestinian uprising

1991                 Iraq Scud attacks

2000-05           Al-Aqsa uprising

2006                Second Lebanese Incursion

While Israel has not officially acknowledged it’s possession of nuclear weapons, it is generally held that they do possess these weapons.  It is to be understood therefore, that an Iranian nuclear strike against Israel would initiate the very first nuclear retaliation or exchange.  Such a truly “nuclear war” is unimaginable for the IDF prompting a pre-emptive strategy.  Although the U.S. has not given a green light for such action, the IDF has shown it is ready to go it alone if necessary.  However, the ultimate hope for Israel’s defense cannot be in the IDF, but in the builder of Ezekiel’s army.

“And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land:  then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD.”  -Ezekiel 37:14

The Cost of Annapolis

“…but the wicked shall do wickedly:  and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.”   -Daniel 12:10

President Bush is the First US president to declare a two state solution as US policy.  His “road map to peace” initiative has included a “quartet” of partners including the UN, the EU and Russia.  He has gone on record supporting a separate, equal, contiguous Palestine.  In the shadow of the Presidential Election ahead, Bush puts his attentions on finishing his diplomatic fiat regarding the Israeli problem.  Despite a long record of the link between American-Israeli relations and it’s correlation with economic prosperity or downfall, the United States pushes forward on this foolish plan of dividing Israel.   The price is too high.

1.  October 14th, 2007                      A Foul Wind Blows

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice travels to Israel to inform and invite Israelis and Palestinians to the upcoming Annapolis Talks.  The purpose of Annapolis is to finalize and foster this policy including the division of Jerusalem.

Consequence:                    October 19th   California:  The Santa Anna winds blow reaching hurricane force; Massive brush fires are triggered; 320,000 homes are evacuated (the largest evacuation in the state’s history);  500,000 acres are destroyed, thousands of homes and businesses are burnt;  over one billion dollars in damage.

October 24th-      President Bush declares much of Southern California a disaster area.

2.        November 27-28th, 2007       The Perfect Storm

At the Annapolis conference President Bush declares the end of 2008 as the deadline for the creation of a Palestinian state that is connected, with East Jerusalem as it’s capital.

Consequence:                    November 29th- Stock market falls 1400 points from October high; first ever time ever hurricane hits Washington and Oregon coasts;  called a 500 year event; biggest rainfall amount in recorded history; 147 mph winds contribute to landslides, flooding and massive loss of property.

3.        January 9-16th, 2008              Aftermath

President Bush travels to Israel and Middle East to push Annapolis agenda.   He starts of the new year, his last year as President, reinforcing the 2008 deadline for a Palestinian state.

Consequence:                    January 11th-  Most powerful January storm ever produces 74 tornadoes from Alabama to Wisconsin.  Stock market falls 250 points a day for 4 days; a loss of 5%.  Bush declares an emergency 145 billion economic  stimulus package necessary.

4.       March 10th, 2008      Lesson NOT Learned

Vice President Cheney travels to Israel and the Middle East to follow up the Annapolis plan.   14th-Rice criticizes Israel for lack of progress.

Consequence:                    March 14th-  Bear Stearns collapses requiring a federal bailout.

March 15th-  Georgia storm and Atlanta tornado are the crescendo of storms across the south and Midwest that require Bush to declare large sections as disaster areas.

5.        June 3-6th, 2008        Full Court Press

Secretary Rice speaks to Jewish group promoting the Annapolis plan.  She announces that she will be going to Israel on the 14-16th to further push Annapolis.  On the 4th, President Bush meets with Israeli leader Ohlmert in the White House to discuss the division of Jerusalem.

Consequence:                    June 6th- Stock market plunges 600 points; Oil surges to record high; Dollar falls to record low; housing falls 16%.

June 7th-Midwest floods; called ‘Iowa’s Katrina’; Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Des Moines under water;  Millions of acres of crops, livestock destroyed to cost of 20 billion dollars; Bush declares disaster areas in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota and Nebraska.

6.        August 18th, 2008    Two Minute Warning

Rice announces yet another trip to Israel to ensure the 2008 mandated deadline for a Palestinian state.  On the 25th, she meets with Abbas and on TV and states “this is the most intensive discussion since at least Camp David.”

Consequence:                    August 18th- Tropical Storm Fay hits Key West, Florida; crosses state 4X; moves on to Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana; 35 dead; Bush declares Florida a disaster area.

August 25th- Tropical Storm Gustav in Caribbean Sea;  New Orleans evacuated for 2nd time since 2005; hit on 29th.

7.        September 11th, 2008             Disaster Strikes

US Consul General to Israel Jake Welles speaks to press in Israel about the commitment to Annapolis plan including division of Jerusalem by the end of 2008.  Bush, McCain and Obama memorialize the Twin Tower tragedy on ground Zero.

Consequence:                    September 11-12th- Hurricane Ike hits Houston, Texas destroying Galveston; nearly 50 billion in damages; no electricity for millions for a week; worst natural disaster in state’s history.

September 13-14th-Lehman Brothers goes bankrupt to the tune of 613 billion dollars; greatest bank failure in US or world history; solidifies credit crises freeze up and stock market melt down;  Bush calls for another emergency 700 billion dollar bailout.

September 25th-Bush meets with Mahmoud Abbas in the White house at 1 pm to discuss dividing Jerusalem followed by a meeting with McCain and Obama at 4pm to discuss the necessity of the bailout.  These meetings are only 3 hours apart!

September 29th- Rosh Hashanah-Stocks fall 777 points!

October 9th- Yom Kippur- Stocks fall 679 points!

October 15th-Feast of Tabernacles- Stocks fall 737 points!

During the ’10 days of Awe’ World markets collapse; Stocks lose a combined 2400 points; American economy shrinks 22% or 8.1 trillion dollars.  This solidifies an Obama victory and a Democratic landslide in the congress.  Bush calls for the G20 to meet in the White House to discuss a new global economic system or “new world order.”

In light of the December incursion into the Gaza Strip by Israeli Defense Forces, the Annapolis plan and the 2008 deadline seem to be a failed measure.  The cost for Americans has been high.  That the Obama administration will reverse course seems too high a hope.   For Bible advocates there is a “road map to peace” we can believe in: “Looking for that blessed hope and that glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.”  (Titus 2:15)

President Bush’s National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley said this in his January 7th, 2009 farewell speech,

“President Bush has led our Nation during a time of great consequence. Few presidents have faced more challenges. But when the history books are written, they will tell the story of a man who never wavered from his principles … who kept our Nation safe … and who helped spread the blessings of liberty to millions around the world. “

The prophet Obadiah said this in chapter 1 and verse 15, “For the day of the LORD is near upon all the heathen:  as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee:  thy reward shall return upon thine own head.”

Language to be a Test of Immigration

Language to be a Test of Immigration

immigration_rallyBy Dr. Douglas F. Levesque, Founder of The Levesque Institute

Between the Al Qaeda threats and the Mexican drug gangs, our borders have become an crucially important issue. Immigration is not a new problem for nations. It is an ancient dilemma with plenty of historical examples of how to and how not to deal with foreigners. Today, America’s border security is foremost on our minds and the ideas are numerous for a solution. The following ideas come from a cornerstone of our national culture – the Bible.

Border Security

In the Bible’s Old Testament book of Judges, a neighboring tribe invaded with the intent to harm the tribe of Gilead. In the name of defense, The Gileadites seized the narrow border areas (mostly fords and rivers), and put a test to their enemies based upon language and culture. The Gileadites made those desiring to cross the defended border say the word, “Shibboleth”, meaning “a stream or river”, but the foreigners could only say “sibboleth”, and were hence identified as unwelcome (Judges 12:6). Their different culture, and therefore mental intent was identified through language. Here is the idea: seize the borders and require English to be well spoken as a baseline of entrance into the United States! This would greatly reduce threatening persons even attempting to cross our border! We need to see this type of profiling as determining America’s enemies by language (and culture) rather than by color or national origin. Foreign gangs and terror cultures can be identified somewhat by language, and their intended purposes should make them to be not welcome here. The preserving of the English language is important to our national security and cultural identity.

Migrant Workers

We need migrant workers. Whether for the unique skills they provide or the low wages they’re willing to work for, the United States simply cannot do without them. The question is how do we safely and efficiently attain them? King David was a great king that employed many foreign workers. The key to his success was that it was the foreign country’s government (in this case King Hiram) that determined and sent the chosen laborers. Hiram was responsible for his own people, their purpose for being there, and the work they did. That these migrants actually built David’s house, a seat of government, shows that they were trusted indeed (II Sam. 5:11). Here is another idea: seek specific labor skills to work, temporarily, at specific jobs, but make their government responsible for their behavior. Needy companies could apply to a job’s bank and countries could apply! Yes, that would make Saudi Arabia responsible for the acts of her citizens on 9/11.

Foreign Relations

Finally, how does a friendly, open country like the United States tighten her borders but maintain a good relationship with her neighbors? The Bible proposes a great relationship as the key to a friendly border not the other way around. If Canada, Mexico, or other countries desire to have their citizen’s work here, then they must show some love. No really! Consider King Solomon’s (King David’s son) continued relationship with King Hiram in I Kings 5:1, “And Hiram King of Tyre sent his servants unto Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him King in the room of his fathers: for Hiram was ever a lover of David.” Here is a final idea: forget worrying about the whole world loving us. Let’s do business with those that do! Join us in principles of liberty in order to share our liberties.

America needs to use the advice of the Bible in the immigration issue, but apply it to ourselves as well. Our very best immigration policy should still be subject to the admonition ‘love thy neighbor as thyself’ (Lev. 19:18). If we held these ancient principles up as policy we would have to be willing to follow them also.

Terror Tantrums Should Be Spanked

terrorist_183By Dr. Douglas F. Levesque, Founder of The Levesque Institute

When a three year old terrorizes his mother in a grocery store by screaming at the top of his lungs and throwing food out of the cart, nobody thinks to them self, “That poor kid is just misunderstood. Maybe his mother is oppressing him.” On the contrary, we all become immediate protagonists of responsible parental spanking. The same principle applies to violent terrorist groups or rogue nations using tantrum like behavior on the global scene. “Please spank that brat!”

 A Rod of Correction

“That’s just how a three year old is,” does not excuse bad behavior or solve the problem of terrorist actions. A swift, fair discipline does not need to be executed many times before a change in actions is likely. A continued, constancy of consequences and even rewards is the best discipline. This course of action in dealing with terror tantrums will be the most effective in helping to produce stable countries that our nation can deal with. A rod of correction is intended to do just that, correct. The rod of correction can put people on the right paths of societal health. We are not trying to use a rod of destruction. We are not throwing a retaliatory tantrum, but using great restraint alongside measured force to help those nations afflicted with these out of control brats to correct their course. The wisdom of the Bible speaks of the rod being an instrument of love, “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” (Prov.13:24)

 Breaking the Will

Nations and groups should not deliver violence as a way of achieving their aims, but use the lash for defensive and justice purposes only. The use of terror tactics equate to tantrums when persons are trying to hijack power or overturn order in other societies. Such violent tantrums may and should be met with enough force to break the will of the offender without destroying the spirits of those around them. A yielded and respectful will is a force for good in any culture or region of the world. The paddle of purposeful correction should then target the enemies will. The question remains, who or what constitutes the will of the terrorists?

 Removing the Foolishness

Foolishness is defined as being without discernment or senseless. And consider these descriptions of foolishness, “The want of mental sanity and sobriety, a reckless and inconsiderate habit of mind”, or “the lack of commonsense perception of reality.” Multiple wives and instant divorce is a foolish and poisonous mix for any society. War in the name of Allah, a pagan idol exalted above others by force, also meets these definitions. The folly of murder-suicide acts to attain salvation or other worldly pleasures is pure folly. These acts cannot be passed off as just virtues from another perspective, but are actually the opposite of that which is rational and good. Terror tantrums and the havoc they wreak will not stop because of a superficial slap on the hand, or an excuse from host governments that just shrug their shoulders in exasperation. The foolish and radical roots of communism and Islam are the will behind these tantrums and therefore should be the object of the American rod of correction. It is not a mean proposition, but ultimately a kind one for, “Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.” (Prov. 22:15).
